Russia to supply two more submarines type 'Varshavyanka' to Algeria

Russia and Algeria plan in the first half of this year to sign a contract for the construction of two diesel-electric submarines of type Project 636 "Varshavyanka", ITAR-TASS reported from a source in the Russian defense industry.

"The submarines will be delivered to the customer in 2018. It is Algeria," - said the source. He added that the submarines will be built at the "Admiralty Shipyards" in St. Petersburg.

"Rosoboronexport" and the Ministry of Defense signed  in 2006 in Algeria a contract for the construction of two Project 636 "Varshavyanka" submarines which were delivered to the customer in 2010. Two more submarines 877EKM (NATO classification - "Kilo"), are in service with the Navy of Algeria and they have been modernized a few years ago at the Russian shipyards.
